Create a group
The public Groups page includes a three-step example of creating a group, inviting members, and planning an activity. Choose Get the app for the iPhone and Android download links, then create your own group in Hop In Sports.
Create a group on the web
Section titled “Create a group on the web”Continue and Back open each step at the top of the page, with your entered details kept in place. Activity creation follows the same behavior.
In the new web experience, choose Start a group on the welcome screen or Create group from the app. The form has three steps and saves your group when you confirm the final review.
-
Add the details
Enter a group name and choose its type. Add an optional description and home area so people know who the group is for and where it usually plays. You can add exact venues later.
-
Choose sports and access
Select at least one sport, up to 20. Choose whether the group is public, unlisted, or private, then decide whether people can join instantly, request approval, or join by invitation.
-
Review and create
Check the details and choose Create group. Use Back to make changes; the form keeps your entries. If saving fails, follow the error message and try again.
-
Open your group
Your group is ready confirms that it was saved. Choose Open group to enter its management workspace, or Plan your first activity to start planning. If you began creating a group while planning an activity, Continue to activity takes you back to that flow with the new group.
Take the next step
Section titled “Take the next step”You become the group’s administrator. Open its management workspace to see Make your first plan happen, a guide to the essentials: your group profile, sports, a saved location, and a first activity. Up next highlights the next unfinished step available to you. You can also open other available steps in any order.
Progress updates from saved changes. Your home area does not count as a saved location; add an exact venue from Add location. A draft activity counts toward setup, so you can finish planning before publishing it. Once the required steps are complete, the guide disappears and the workspace continues to show your activities and group tools.
Expand Optional tools to invite another organizer, connect payments, or create a membership or pass. These tools do not affect the required progress, and you can return to them later. Available actions depend on your group permissions; an administrator can help with steps you cannot change.
Save your first location
Section titled “Save your first location”Choose Add location in the setup guide to open Settings → Locations. When your group has no saved locations, the first-location form appears right on the page. Enter a location name and, optionally, its street address, city, state or region, and postal code. Choose Save location.
If saving fails, your entries stay in the form so you can retry. Location saved confirms that the venue is stored; choose Continue group setup to return to the workspace with updated progress. Saving a location does not reserve the venue.
Later, use Add location to save another venue or Edit location to change its details, including its postal code. You can add courts or fields separately from the saved-location list.
Plan your first activity
Section titled “Plan your first activity”Choose Create activity from the setup guide. Your group is already selected; use Change group if you want to organize for a different community. When you open Create activity elsewhere, choose the group that will host it first.
Under Choose your format, select Pickup for one game or a regular meetup, Tournament for an event with entries and matches, or League for a season. The formats shown depend on your group’s access. An unavailable format explains why; group admins may see Group settings or View plan to resolve it.
Saved drafts appear under Pick up where you left off, above the format choices. Choose Resume to continue one. You can save a draft in the activity editor and return later. After your group has created an activity or draft, the page uses a smaller Make the next plan welcome.
For Pickup, work through three steps:
- Activity details — name the pickup, choose a sport and play format, then set the date, time, and location. Choose Weekly for a recurring series. Open Description & cover to add arrival instructions or your own image; open Hosts to change the lead host or add your crew.
- Signup — set spots, price, and who can join. Extra settings, such as registration timing, waitlists, guests, and attendance, expand when needed.
- Review & publish — check the activity preview and signup rules. Use Edit activity details or Edit signup to make changes without losing your other choices, then choose Publish pickup.
The draft status shows whether you have unsaved changes. Choose Save draft to keep your progress; changes are not saved automatically.
Publishing confirms the activity was saved and opens its management page. Whether players can find or join it still depends on its visibility and registration settings.
