Set up tournament competition

Use Competition setup to decide how your tournament runs. Players see the resulting format and competition journey, not the setup choices used to create it.

Recommended setup asks Hop In Sports to suggest a specific format for your expected field and preferences. It is an authoring option, not a competition format: the resulting journey might be round robin, pools, or an elimination bracket. Review that journey before publishing, or choose a supported format directly.

For the rules of each format, read How tournament competition works.

During creation, open Competition setup. Choose the tournament format and review the journey for each division. Use Customize this division when a division should compete differently; otherwise it follows the tournament format. Advanced options are optional and depend on the selected format.

The preview assumes each division reaches its maximum entries. Review pool sizes, advancement, minimum games, and total matches. These are estimates; prepare the final draw from confirmed competitors. A minimum-games preference helps shape the recommendation but should not be presented as an unconditional guarantee to players.

After creation, open Settings → Edit competition setup. Direct editing is available for draft or published tournaments with no current entries and no matches. Withdrawn, cancelled, voided, and disqualified entries keep their history but do not block editing. Pending entries still count.

When current entries exist, use Competition → Prepare draw. Confirm competitors before preparing the draw. Changes to an existing structure are reviewed for their impact; scheduled matches, started competition, and recorded results can prevent replacement. Use the available match correction or replacement actions when a full structure change is no longer appropriate.

Competition format changes do not switch an individual division into a team division or change who pays. Those are separate entry and payment settings.
